  • First Ugandan next gen confirmed

    2/7/2009

next gen conference is confirmed to run for the first time in Uganda in December. Read next gen committee chairperson Raj Gupta's letter to supporters below.

For over 10 years I have been involved with the katoomba christian convention's next generation conference (formerly kylc). Going for each of 2 weeks in January every year, it is recognised as one of Australia's leading evangelical leadership training conferences.

People from around the world have come to observe and learn from the conference. Present this year were two people from Uganda, courtesy of friends from Armidale. Within the space of just a day their thinking was revolutionised.

'We have thousands of people who respond to the message of Jesus. But when they go back to their homes, the thorns of the world crowd in and many do not remain with the faith. Seeing this [conference], we realise what we need is to train our leaders to teach the Bible. That will mean new Christians become grounded in God's Word and many more will remain Christian.'

God works through His Word. You can guess the next line: 'Will you come and help?'

I have been sharing the unfolding story as discussions have continued back and forth about the possibility of a partnership between the katoomba christian convention and our friends in Armidale to start next gen Uganda.

A few weeks ago there was confirmation that the very first next gen Uganda will take place in early December this year. It will be my honour to lead this team of more than 6 people. I am thankful to Christian leaders for their encouragement to pursue this incredible opportunity.

God works through His Word, as my new Ugandan friends observed. And we have been asked to help equip our brothers and sisters on the other side of the world with tools so that they may better understand the Word of God and to teach and model how it ought to be foundational to any ministry.

From the kyck convention, and in the midst of a global financial crisis, the youth of Sydney raised over $15,000 to make this venture possible. And now I invite you to be a prayer partner and pray as the team forms and for wisdom we adapt our material to the Ugandan context.

These brothers and sisters have turned their back on those from the United States who have gone down the track of liberalism. What a privilege to be asked to equip their leaders with tools to help them better understand the Word of God.

    Raj Gupta
    next gen chairperson
