These brand-new workshops will be accompanied by plenary Bible-talks from keynote speaker, Kit Barker, who will be presenting four sermons and unpacking the Book of Psalms. Also new for NextGen, Kit will be taking delegates in a behind-the-scenes tutorial on how he developed his sermon.
Introducing the NextGen 2022 Workshops and Facilitators
NextGen’s workshops have been designed to bring real-life application to the core materials with useful, relevant skills and topics. Here’s a sneak peek into what delegates can expect from NextGen’s workshops:
1. Engaging all Learners to Engage with God: Including Kids and Teens with Disability with Louise Gosbell
This workshop will provide you with practical tips and strategies for including kids and teens with diverse skills and abilities in kids and youth programs, especially kids/teens with disability and those who are neuro-atypical (on the autism spectrum). The workshop will address a biblical rationale for inclusive practices and discuss what churches and individuals can do to better support these families.
2. Reaching Gen Z with Shelley Ligtermoet
In this workshop, you will be equipped and empowered with the knowledge and tools to be able to identify the key needs of Generation Z in order to maximise your impact for this next generation for the Kingdom of God.
3. Foundations of Youth Ministry with Mike Dicker
In this workshop, Mike will present on the foundations of Youth Ministry that will help you start and continue an effective youth ministry for whatever context you’re in.
4. From the Bible to a Kids’ Talk with QuizWorx
With their 20+ years of practical experience in children’s ministry combined with their unique creativity and flair, QuizWorx’s practical workshop will unpack the most important steps needed to take a Bible passage and turn it into an engaging and faithful Kids’ Talk or lesson.
5. Spiritual Formation of a Leader with Graham Stanton
In this workshop, you will think about the specific challenges to spiritual life and health faced by Christian leaders, and make plans for how to pursue practices that keep us connected to the presence and promises of Christ.
6. Intergenerational Ministry with Stuart Crawshaw
Stuart has been practicing, speaking and writing about intergenerational ministry since 1992. He will assist you to think about the importance of intergenerational ministry and how to build significant and purposeful interactions between generations.
7. Foundations of Children’s Ministry with Tim Beilharz
In this workshop, you will explore the biblical foundations for passing on the faith to children, as well as the basic principles that ground an effective children’s ministry in the local church.
8. Mental Health 101 with Trinette Stanley
This workshop will provide guidance and practical tips on your role in supporting kids and youth with mental health struggles and illnesses, as well as a discussion on the importance of a holistic approach.
9. Connecting Teenagers with George Statheos
The purpose of this workshop is to reflect on how best to connect teenagers in their Christian journey. George will help you be equipped with tools to help youth make transitions in life from one group to another and ultimately be active members in their local church.
10. Action: The Practical Side of the Gospel in the Community with Matt Gelding
In this workshop, you will think through questions about what it can look like for our youth to be serving like Jesus does in their local community. You’ll look through the Bible and some examples in the last 20 years in NSW on how you can apply this to your own context.
