Lives Are Being Changed: A Year in Review

27/10/2020

2020 has been a challenging year for the events industry, and yet God has still been at work in impacting and transforming lives. Please join us in praising God for all that He has done in the past year through the ministry of KCC.
Picture

2020 has been a year of great challenges and new opportunities. Due to COVID-19, in-person conventions were cancelled and our conference centre was forced to close its doors for business. Although circumstances have been difficult, we have been able to continue the ministry with the use of new technologies.

In April, we hosted KYCK Live where God’s word was preached to over 10,000 teenagers as far and wide as Western Australia, Tasmania, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, The United States and The United Kingdom. From June through to early October, we live-streamed Onward, BASECAMP, OneLove and KYCK events to over 6,000 delegates in Australia and overseas.
“In a season that has left so many feeling distant and isolated, we really felt like part of a larger Christian community tonight. Looking into Thessalonians and turning the youths’ minds away from themselves and towards the lives they can live through Christ is truly something great. Our youth and leaders had such a great time hanging out and gathering around the word of God today.”

– Rest·Awe Youth, KYCK20 Delegates
“In a world saturated with online content, the talks were perfect length, there was variety of presentations and lots of conversation, so it was easy to stay engaged. The theme and Bible content were incredibly encouraging and challenging.”

– Ann, OneLove20 Delegate
“Seeing some of my brothers from church face-to-face for the first time in 5 months. Great theme, with three great challenges. A very professional live stream, one of the best I've seen during the COVID season!”

– Jim, BASECAMP 20 Delegate
“The work and passion that KCC puts into Onward and KYCK is really evident! I really enjoy and look forward to these events every year, and I know that they've played a big role in the Christian journeys of me and others."

– Onward 2020 delegate
This year, we also launched a brand new ‘KCC One’ mobile app--giving users free access to KCC’s extensive library of sermons, workshops, testimonials and ministry resources. Available on mobile and tablet, ‘KCC One’ has a big vision of making God’s word accessible on a worldwide basis.

In October, KCC kicked off ‘Oxygen Live’, a series of FREE online Facebook events aimed at helping Christian leaders and ministry workers to prioritise ministry wellbeing and run refreshed. The ‘Oxygen Live’ panels have featured mentors and psychologists such as Tim Dyer, Dr Grant Bickerton and Dr Valerie Ling who have joined us to address topics such as ministry stress, crisis management and burn out.

Help keep KCC going in 2021

While there is much to thank God for, COVID-19 has had a significant impact on our financial situation. In June, we commenced a fundraising effort to raise a minimum of $750,000 to see KCC through the challenges of 2020. So far, KCC supporters have contributed over $510,000! We are now seeking to raise the remaining $240,000 before the end of this year.

If you have been blessed by the ministry of KCC and have the capacity to give, we would love to invite you to consider donating to our ministry here: https://bit.ly/2Tiv1Bl

NextGen addresses the need for a new format to better equip delegates

8/10/2020

NextGen will offer 'Training Kits' in 2021 and will officially relaunch in 2022 in a new format that better serves and equips the next generation of Bible teachers. Sign up to our upcoming NextGen Info Night for more information!

NextGen 20 Delegates
For the last 30 years, NextGen conference has played an integral role in training and equipping leaders in youth and children’s ministry. Hosted by Katoomba Christian Convention, NextGen’s world-class training model has been exported both interstate and overseas, with leaders trained up in Queensland, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Uganda and the Solomon Islands.
Since 1990, tens of thousands of delegates have graduated from the NextGen program with a renewed love of God and the confidence to read and teach the Bible to others. Delegates have left NextGen to serve their local church as lay leaders, and some have completed the program with the conviction to enter full-time pastoral or Christian ministry.
"NextGen training fuelled my desire for God, his Word and to be further equipped to serve him better."

- Spiro, Pastor of Greek Free Church, Kingsgrove
“God used NextGen to propel my life on track. Through the powerful preaching, I was convicted that Christ was worthy of my all. I remember after a night session...I prayed that God would help me resolve to live a single-minded, transformed life as Jesus deserves no less.

- Fi, serving in Christian Education
 in NSW
“Things which I take for granted now I was introduced to for the first time at NextGen. I really had no idea how to read the Bible properly and that was made clear to me at NextGen. I hadn’t even heard of biblical theology before. All this stuff I took back to Brisbane to try and implement into the Young Adults group.”

- Iggy, Pastor of Coopers Plains Evangelical (QLD)
The need for a new NextGen format
While we are able to praise God for all that He has done through NextGen, we recognise that times have changed and that the old format posed some challenges which prevented groups from receiving the full benefits of the NextGen program.

Such challenges include:

  • Geographical difficulty of getting to NextGen in Katoomba – especially for delegates living in regional areas.

  • Financial difficulty of affording a week-long conference over three years.

  • Scheduling difficulties especially for time-poor delegates who were unable to complete the three-year program.

In 2021, our team will come together to brainstorm ways in which we can transform our challenges into opportunities, with the aim to relaunch in 2022 in a new and exciting format.

Last chance to be encouraged at KYCK 2020!

6/10/2020

There is only 5 days left to register for the KYCK 20 livestream, and to spend quality time in God's word with high-schoolers across the state. Join us as we celebrate the unchanging message of the gospel of Jesus Christ and its impact on our past, present and future.
Picture
KYCK 20 Speakers
Late last month, teenagers and youth groups from across the state tuned into the KYCK livestream to be encouraged by God’s word. Guest speakers Ben Staunton, Dave Jensen and Matt Sparks joined the livestream to preach from the book of 1 Thessalonians on the theme 'Past Present Future'.

The KYCK 20 livestream featured three bible talks from the book of 1 Thessalonians. In session 1, Ben Staunton explained how the past event of Jesus’ death and resurrection grants believers hope for 2020 and beyond. In session 2, Dave Jensen encouraged youth to trust that God’s plan for their lives is far better than the plans that they are making for their own lives. In the final session, Matt Sparks comforted youth with God’s eternal promises, and how that changes the way we see and grieve death.
Picture
CityAlight leading worship in song at KYCK 1
The program also featured worship in song by CityAlight, inspiring testimonies and a live Q&A panel which answered the following question as voted by viewers:

1) The idea of eternity scares me, even though I know I have eternity with God. Got any verses/tips to help?

2) How can we bring our religion into conversation and talk about it to non-Christians without appearing intrusive or rude?

For many youth groups, KYCK was a special opportunity to encourage one another in-person, and to find hope in gospel truths for 2020 and the future ahead:
“In a season that has left so many feeling distant and isolated, we really felt like part of a larger Christian community tonight. Looking into Thessalonians and turning the youths’ minds away from themselves and towards the lives they can live through Christ is truly something great. Our youth and leaders had such a great time hanging out and gathering around the word of God today.”

- Rest·Awe Youth, Richmond, NSW
“Our youth and leaders had a fantastic time. We were all so challenged by the talks and we especially want to thank the speakers for their wisdom and engaging talks. Our youth group got to hear the truth of Jesus, they were challenged and greatly encouraged.”

- Mudgee Baptist Church
