Men share why they have joined the BASECAMP movement

15/11/2017

For 20 years, thousands of men of all ages and life stages have gathered at BASECAMP (previously Katoomba Men's Convention) to be reminded of the greater vision that God has for their lives.

At BASECAMP this year, we asked our delegates to share their reasons for joining the movement!

Meet Ivan

Ivan from Gracepoint Presbyterian attended BASECAMP Sydney for the first time this year because he wanted to hear teaching that was relevant to Christian men:
"What really convinced me to come is the fact that this event is all about hearing what God has to say through other men, hearing from their advice and life experience for what it means to be a godly man."
At a time when following Jesus can be isolating and discouraging, Ivan found it encouraging to be surrounded by a thousand men who had also set aside a Saturday to dig deep into God's word:
"Consider how often men get together to talk about important serious spiritual topics. And yet it's something so important for Christians to do. I think KCC has really addressed this issue by organising something like BASECAMP."

Meet David

David from Emu Plains Anglican has been attending BASECAMP for a number of years. He brings a group of men every year because they believe that BASECAMP plays a valuable part in their spiritual walk with God and one another:
"What makes BASECAMP great is that you get to spend a whole day under the Word of God and you get to reflect with your mates, something that's so unique to the Christian experience."

Meet Chester

Chester from Gracepoint Presbyterian shares why he has been coming to BASECAMP for over a decade and why the event has remained a priority despite the busyness of family, church and work:
"If you're concerned that you've had a hard week and you just don't have the energy, i'd encourage you to come because you'll actually get your energy renewed."
Chester also shares how God used BASECAMP to connect him to a brother in Christ, a fellow believer who he has walked alongside for over 12 years:
"BASECAMP is a great spring board to building relationships with other men that you can walk with, beyond today. 12 years ago I went with a younger brother in Christ and we founded our mateship and from that, we've continued hanging out with one another and pointing one another to Christ."

Women share stories of Eternity at OneLove

1/11/2017

OneLove 2017 featured Bible talks and testimonies centred around the theme 'For Eternity'. Be inspired by the faith of three ordinary Australian women who in spite of momentary troubles, have placed their hope in the promises of Eternity:

Jenny

Jenny was just a teenager when she lost her mother to breast cancer. It was in her grief that her journey into discovering God's eternal purposes in suffering began. After battling her own breast cancer and the death of her grandchild, Jenny shares how she has learned to trust that life in Eternity is better by far:

"We have a living hope in a risen Christ who has gone before us into his eternal kingdom. A hope that carried my mother Judith through the cruel pains of death, and a hope that sustained our family facing the shocking loss of little Layla Judith Grace. A hope that makes all the difference in this world and the next."

Listen to her testimony here:

Sozon

Despite accepting Christ at the age of three, Sozon spent the first half of her life living in active rebellion against him. After struggling with the guilt of an abortion, Sozon found lasting healing in her God of unfailing love:

"This ongoing realisation that God cannot love me any more and he cannot love me any less. His love is free and it's undeserved...While the walls came down and I started living again, I started living as a person set free...Every single day I have to keep hearing, reminding and believing that it is by grace that I have been saved."

Listen to her testimony here:

Justine

Despite growing up in a Christian home, Justine struggled to believe that Jesus could bring her joy and happiness. When she was sixteen, Justine walked away from the faith and found herself struggling with anxiety, anorexia, drug and alcohol abuse. Everything changed when she signed up to run a marathon for the persecuted church in Lebanon:

"Happiness cannot be found in yourself. It can't be found in anything the world has to offer and it definitely cannot be a subject of your circumstances. True happiness can only be found in Jesus. Meeting with Christians who have lost everything for their faith, but still have so much joy and so much to live for has changed my whole life."
