In partnership with Malcolm Gill, we are pleased to release ‘The Beatitudes’, a video devotional series available exclusively on the KCC One App.

Starting Monday 16 November, we will release a daily devotional from Matthew 5:3–12, where Jesus powerfully reminds us, his disciples, of the blessed life that God has called us to.

Here’s a preview of what you can expect:

  1. Blessed are the Poor: An acknowledgement of spiritual inadequacy, is the start, middle, and end points of a thriving life under God.

  2. Blessed are those who Mourn: In contrast to our cultural belief that we life is all about pleasure, the life that is blessed by God is one that sorrows over sin and the brokenness of our world as it yearns for a coming kingdom.

  3. Blessed are the Meek: The God-endorsed life is not one of aggression and competitiveness, but rather it is life that shows control of power through humble restraint.

  4. Blessed are the Hungry: The thriving life finds fulfillment and satisfaction in walking in step with the Spirit of God, not in the passing pleasures of the world.

  5. Blessed are the Merciful: Loving God means loving our neighbour. As those who have been treated mercifully from our heavenly Father, it is only right we that we reflect the same mercy to those around us.

  6. Blessed are the Pure in Heart: In a society of impurity and rubbish, God sets apart his people to live in holiness and purity as they walk in step with the Holy Spirit.

  7. Blessed are the Peacemakers: In a world of conflict and division, the people of God are to reflect his character as they facilitate peace by seeking reconciliation and unity.

  8. Blessed are the Persecuted: The Christian life is difficult but worthwhile. Hardship for the gospel is not a sign of abandonment, but a sign that one is centered within God’s will.

According to Malcolm, the Beatitudes points to a blessed life that is both counter-cultural and counter-intuitive, and “endorsed” by God:

“The Beatitudes are not an entry point into the Christian life, rather, they are an invitation to reflect on the life that God desires for those who have already come to know him. The beatitudes remind us of the joys of the God-endorsed life.”

Malcolm Gill is a long-time KCC supporter and platform speaker. He has served as the Oxygen Chair, and he has been a valuable guest speaker across KCC conventions. Outside of KCC, Mal has served in churches in Texas and Sydney, and he currently teaches New Testament, Greek and Preaching at Sydney Missionary & Bible College.
